Trailer Questionnaire

After finishing our first edit of our trailer, my class mate and I Produced a questionnaire to give to some people of the targeted age we are aiming for (18+) after they had watched the trailer. This was done so to allow them to give us some helpful, constructive feedback on how to make our trailer better. We have taken on board the feedback, which was surprisingly good and have changed our trailer, for what we positively believe, the better. The main, overall piece of feedback we gained from most of the viewers was that there needed to be a short, snappy clip, preferably scary, after the screen goes blank during the telephone no service tone. Other constructive feedback we gained was to shorten some clips, and change some title screens so that they read different things. Overall we viewed the trailer to 20 people and they all said they would want to see the film at the cinema if it was in fact being produced. A great result I think.

The pictures above contain some of the 20 people asked watching the trailer and then answering the questionnaires. Also a picture of the questionnaire, with some already answered.

Poster

This the poster I have come up with for our final piece trailer THE HAUNTED.

I used a black background and white writing for the majority of the poster along witha  black and white picture, but used bright red on the film title, mainly to help it stand out to the viewer or passer by.
I chose this picture becasue i think it doesnt say too much about the film and will help make the viewer or passer by want to know more about the film, but it alos looks spooky and misterious. This also links teh picture in the with the question i placed ont eh poster..."will you be able to sleep?" as again this is questioning the passer by or viewer.
I have also places the age certificate we have decided to place the film at as this will enable passers by to see who it is aimed at, and also this gives them a certain insight to what will be in teh film as certain age cirtificates contain certian things which gain them the rating.
Furthermore; I have also included the names of the cast and a director name to make the poster look more professional, as real film posters let the public know who is in the film adn who its produced by and edited etc.
The last thing i have included in the poster is some quotes from the press, magazines and even teh BBFC (British Board of film Classification). I doent his simply again to amke teh psoter look more professional and to give the film, in slang terms, some "hype". This is aimed at making the public more intrested in viewing the film when it is released.

Magazine Front Cover

For my film trailer I have produced a possible front cover design for the popular film magazine...Total Film, after analysing actual front covers of Total Film magazine. I have looked at previous front covers for this popular magazine and taken notes on what makes them so effective in their job, and what factors help the front cover stand out to the buyer on the shop shelve such as title size, colour, pictures and other information advertised on the front cover of the mag.

Horror Trailer Evaluation

The Paranormal Activity trailer is a great example of what we want to do as it isn't a associated with stereotypical horror films and is different in the fact that it is a scary, thrilling film, simply by the way it is filmed and edited along with music.
Another key factor in this trailer we would like to included is the restriction notice at the begining of the trailer because the film is an 18, as this will make the trailer look even more professional and realistic.

Horror Trailers

In general, all all horror trailers include either, blood, gore, scary scenes, jumpy bits, quick editing, and the best horror trailers...all of these things. However; me and my class mate aren't going to follow the lines of bloody and gore to an extent to which most do, but focus more on the freaky, unusual happenings side, planning to scare our viewers this way instead.

Also, all good horror trailers give a brief insight to the story line if not more. This is something we are really wanting to do and plan to do at the beginning with some writing, as well as the rest of the footage we use throughout the trailer. We already had thought of this as we were writing our story board and have drawn up a shot/scene in the trailer that includes one of the characters sort of explaining that "weird stuff has been going on in the house".

Furthermore; another key factor we wish to include, which we will check after publishing a questionnaire, is that the trailer makes the view want to go and see the film and find out more about the film! The main purpose of a trailer for a upcoming film, is to get a many people to come and watch the film as possible and buy a ticket. If a trailer does not do this, less people will want to go and see it, not as many tickets will be sold, and therefore the film is more likely to make a financial loss. My class mate and I plan to place a question in our questionnaire asking whether or not the person would want to go and see the film at the cinema. If the general answer is a no, we will continue to edit the trailer to make it better, taking into consideration how the viewers think we could make it better and get them to want to watch it at a cinema.

Story Board

For our trailer, my class mate and I came up with a story board for our trailer which includes brief shots and idea's we plan to film, and use, also along with commenting on how we should edit between and different shots to gain the effect we want.

Age Certificate

Due to the some of the language which is used in the trailer, and which would most probably be used in the actual film if it was made, we have decided to give the film a 18 rating. However; we do not base this age restriction on pure bad language. If the film was made, their are certain scenes and shots we would include which are not suitable for viewers under the age of 18 and not just because of visual scenes, but also because of the psychological effect the film could have on viewers. We have discussed the possibility of lowering it to a 15, however we feel that our target market is the 18's and over and this is the sort of film they go and see.

Final Piece Change

Due to certain and recent factors such as limited resources available to us in regards to suitable filming locations to fit the story line and overall whole genre of the trailer, we have decided this idea is not practical or visible to us. These reasons were not foreseen and highly inappropriate for us. For these reasons we have decided to change our trailer to a horror trailer. We will use and refer to research techniques we used to find out key information which would help us for our basketball trailer constantly and to great detail but this time for a horror whilst we are filming and planing the filming in the limited time we now have left to us.

The new idea which we have includes a group of friends, whom one has passed their driving test. They have a crash in the forest and one of the friends dies. 1 Year later, strange things start to happen at their house they all live in together. Rather than focus on the stereotypical horror trailer, we aren't going to focus on blood, gore, and horrible things, rather we are going to focus more on the paranormal side of the happenings, and try to make the trailer scary and jump simply by filming things which are simply weird and will make the viewers question how it was done, and hopefully give them a goose bump or two. Throughout the trailer, we plan to have the storyline sort of explained and then to continue with short, snappy clips, which we will build up with the music to create even more suspense and tension. We also plan to have a jumpy bit at the end, but how we are to do this is still to be decided.

The name of the trailer, we have decided is going to be called ... THE HAUNTED!
