After looking at certain trailers which are similar to the one in which we are going to make, we have looked into the certificates they are given. We have looked into the language and the sort of scene’s which are going to be seen in the trailer or what could be seen in the film it was made and have decided our certificate purely on those basis and in relation to other basketball films.
“Coach Carter” has a age certificate of 12A because of the violent language frequently used in the film and because of some of the scenes which reveal some male players body’s, give an insight to a late teenage party and also that suggest drug use and violence. This is also the case for “Glory Road” and “White men can’t jump”
“Like Mike” however has a age certificate of PG because it is a film which is more not realistic and doesn’t include bad language or imply drug use or violence. It is also aimed at young kids who (like Calvin the main character) dream of being in the NBA. You would then therefore think that it deserves a PG rating but there are parts in the films where driving under the influence are included and scene which would be more beneficial to a child to have an adult with them.
We have to decided to give our film a 15 rating because want to try and capture the “on court” feel and also the locker room banter which is associated with basketball and what we think the audience will be expecting to see. There may also be some small aspects of violence in the locker room when the two main characters are alone and also on the court if something goes wrong or some is tackled in a nasty, deliberate way.
