Trailer Idea's and Brain Storms For Actually Course-Work Piece

In lesson me and my class mate who I am working with discussed a few possible ideas for our trailer. These included different genre's of trailer and the factor which we would include in them and any idea's off the to of our heads which we would think would work well in the idea in which we were discussing. Below is one of the brain storms.
Idea 1:   Biking Trailer
  • Music- Starts off slow with scenery shots- few logo's/advertisements- suddenly snaps into fast music with quick shots and camera work-every now and then a flash of the director, cast, etc.

  • Camera Angles: Lots of different angles-180 degree-shot reverse shot-panning shots-slow motion shots-close ups-tracking shots-different speeds

  • Concept/Idea: Rider who has recently crashed and been off the bike for a long time and is now making a come back, following him trough training and events

  • Genre: Documentary

Idea's and Brainstorms continued.......

Since last posting this Post, My class mate and I have decided to change our idea, and in quite a drastic and completely opposite way. We have decided, considering what sources, and environments we have available to us, that it would better for us to come up with another idea. This idea was and now is a trailer for a basketball film which would fall under a comedy-fantasy film.

The Idea we have come up with is that there is school basketball team who has a star player whom is very popular in and outside the team. The team also has a helper who assists the coach who simply carries out err ends for the coach and team. However; unknown to the team, coach and the school its self he is actually a very talented player who just has not got the confidence to apply for the team but needs to be on the court in some way as his love for the game is so big.

The idea is that in the trailer the audience gets the image of the two main characters who are the basketball'er and the helper. We plan to do this through a series of shots to establish these two characters and also to portray how popular they are and how they aren't.

After a series of shots and happenings shown in the trailer to achieve this, the plan is to have a shot of the helper on his own on the court after a training session shooting some hoops, unknown to him that the coach is watching, realising that he has a potentially amazing player right under his nose! After this the coach approaches the character asking him to attend the next training session, but not as a helper, but as a player.

The coach then introduces to the team that they have a new player, in which the team is then very curious, but when the helper walks in they just laugh and cant take it seriously. The coach then tells them to get there act together and starts the session. The helper then has more inspiration to do well.

The idea is then to show them all in practise, practically ignoring the new man who they cant seem to accept, showing shots and opportunities being missed because they would not pass to the new man. We also plan to show shots which show the new players awesome talent and team and the better player (to there disgression) realising how good he is.

The team then ends the session in the locker room mocking the new player expressing how its was luck or he put something in his drink etc. Finally the new guy and the better player are alone and the better player squares up to the new guy saying how he will be nothing compared to hm and that himself will always be best.

More shots of the new guy training and becoming more noticed on and off the court will be shown, even him talking to girls who are at first seen to be with the better guy. The idea for The end of the trailer is for tension to be built up to an outcome of a one on one game between the two rivals asking one question.....WHO WILL WIN?

Piranha Trailer Re-veiw

Piranha Trailer Re-view

Recently I reviewed the New Piranha 3D film's Trailer on youtube "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW5_4gZ0Jn4" to see and understand the Purposes of Movie Trailers. To do this i looked at how music, camera shots and techniques, and other factors/characteristics of the traielr were used to attract and ingage the audience and also to help market the film itself.

For the music used in the trailer was music which fitted and suited to the tenison on screen. When the clips were slower and casued the viewers to be thinknig more the music was slower and less attracting. However; when the shots on screen turned to high tension and quick, short and snappy so did the music, which helped create great tension, high amounts of 'jumpyness' in teh audience and it also helped draw the audience in and making them want to see more.

The camera shots and techniques used we very varied and contained lots of different ways to attrack the audience and there attention. Again, they usually reflected on how fast the music was. When a slower beat music was being played calmer shots were on screen with smoother camera movement and editing like 180 degree rule and establishing shots, but when the music built up in suspense and pace, so did the shot movments. Quick shot reverse shots were used along with jerky camera movements grabbing the viewers attention and making the film stand up to its genre as a horror even more.

The Genre of the film is advertised as a comic horror for 18 years and older because of the sense of humor and graphic content of the film. They film makers have also been very cunning in this as they include the target audience in teh trailer and film, (the late teeneagers at the pool party). This attracts this age group even more to the film becasue teh trailer includes and lets the audience know that 'their sort of intrests' are in the film, such as partually naked girls, money, drink and all around PARTYING!

The film also advertises a Unique selling point......3D which is a state of the art form of viewing film which is getting more and more popular as time goes on. Recent films films like Avater: "http://www.avatarmovie.com/" have included this feature into their production and Avatar recorded the highest gross profit from a single film.....ever. Advertising and including this feaure greatly improves its likability.
